Ben Bartlett

Head of Academy Coaching

Background:

I worked for the FA for 12 years as a coach developer, primarily with coaches in professional football clubs for five years. Prior to that in my first seven years I worked across the South of England delivering a suite of courses to the grassroots game.

I’ve also worked with Chelsea for two years in the women’s programme as they looked to take their side into full time professionalism. I spent ten years at Colchester United in various coaching roles ranging from centres of excellence to football in the community.

The Role:

There are two main elements to my role. The first is to draw together and align to player philosophy and style, the profiles and characteristics, and the coachs' philosophy. I need to make sure each coach has a coherent and clear idea of the strategy through the club. The idea is to embed this into day to day strategy.

I work with analysis to support their game understanding alongside analytical understanding. We are all coaches in our own rights. The coaches draw together these practices to see how they look practically. We are trying to build a self-awareness across our coaches and spread the idea that each group will behave differently for different reasons to improve adaptability to situations.
