On 11th September 2012 the Club announced the free transfer signing of Giorgos Karagounis until the end of the 2012/13 season.
The midfielder has captained the Greece national side, for whom he has now made more than 120 appearances. He was a member of the team which won the 2004 European Championship in Portugal.
Karagounis became the joint highest-capped player for Greece last June, scoring the only goal against Russia which saw them qualify for the Quarter-Finals of Euro 2012.
He made a total of 380 appearances in two five-year spells at Panathinaikos. In between his time in Athens, he spent two seasons at both Internazionale and SL Benfica.
Karagounis has also made over 100 European (UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League) appearances for his clubs.
