Fulham signed Sascha Riether on a season-long loan from FC Cologne in early July in a deal that gives the Whites an option to acquire the player on a permanent basis next summer.

The talented right-back, who can also play in midfield, started his senior career at SC Freiburg in 2002 where he made 139 appearances in five seasons before making the move to VfL Wolfsburg in 2007. He spent four seasons there and made 116 appearances, winning the Bundesliga in 2009.

Riether played against Fulham in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League in 2010, before joining Cologne that summer.

Has made two international appearances, making his debut as a second-half substitute in a 2-2 draw against Denmark in August 2010. A month later he made his first start in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Azerbaijan which Germany won 6-1.
