Fulham’s U19s made a successful start in their defence of the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup following a 4-0 victory over FC Dallas on Sunday.

The 2013 winners got off to a flying start when Moussa Dembélé opened the scoring after just 11 minutes with a customary cool finish inside the famous Cotton Bowl Stadium.

The young Frenchman almost made it two moments later when meeting a teasing delivery with his head. However, he didn’t have to wait long for his second slotting in a confident penalty on 29 minutes following a foul on Lyle Della Verde.

FC Dallas certainly had their chances, but ultimately it was Fulham that were making the difference in front of goal with a third claimed shortly before the interval. Dembélé fired in a second spot kick of the night, after Emerson Hyndman had been fouled by Dallas’ keeper Jose Gonzalez.

The American side started the second half brightly, with Santiago Agudelo heading narrowly wide and Aaron Meyer going close following a clever quick free-kick.

Antonio Aguilar then cut in from the right before moving Magnus Norman into a decent stop.

Fulham gradually regained their rhythm, after Steve Wigley had made a number of changes, and Lasse Vigen Christensen could well have made it four when running on to George Williams’ delightfully executed back heel.

The Whites did have a fourth, though, on 80 minutes with Jordan Evans and Williams combining smartly down the left. With the ball whipped in, Josh Smile showed great technique to rifle in an unstoppable 20-yard drive.

Fulham impressed until the very end, with Hyndman beating three players before drawing Gonzalez into a fine stop and Noe Baba also going close.

The result sent Wigley’s charges to the top of Group A in the Gordon Jago Super Group, with Brazilian side Coritiba seeing off IF Brommapojkarna of Sweden 2-0 in the earlier Group A fixture.

Fulham take on IF Brommapojkarna on Monday (6pm UK time).

Fulham U19: Norman; Passley (Sheckleford 72), Donnelly (Burgess 55), O’Reilly, Evans; Sambou (Baba 68), Hyndman, Christensen; Plumain (Williams 62), Dembélé (O'Halloran 62), Della Verde (Smile 55)
