A late goal by substitute Elijah Adebayo earned Fulham a 2-1 win over the US National Team Under-20s in their second Group A game of the Dallas Cup.

A late goal by substitute Elijah Adebayo earned Fulham a 2-1 win over the US National Team Under-20s in their second Group A game of the Dallas Cup on Monday.

After the Americans had gone in front in the 16th minute of the Gordon Jago Super Group encounter, the Whites hit back 60 seconds later through Stephen Humphrys.

With the match heading for a draw, Adebayo took advantage of an awful back pass to win it for Fulham, who drew 3-3 with Hoffenheim on Sunday in their opening game.

The first action of note against the Americans came in the 12th minute when Josh Walker bundled his way into the box but saw his shot pushed behind at the near post. From the resulting corner, Jayden Harris saw an effort loop up and towards the net, with the US keeper palming it away from under the bar. America then went straight down the other end and a rising drive from distance was tipped over by Magnus Norman.

The US, though, went in front in the 16th minute when a corner was only partially cleared and Emmanuel Sabbi fired home.

The lead lasted less than a minute, though, as Luca de la Torre drove forward from midfield and fed Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson down the left. His cross was headed home by Humphrys.

Fulham escaped in the 23rd minute when a US striker scuffed a good chance wide, while at the other end, Humphrys was off target with a header from a corner.

Ryheem Sheckleford went into the book in the 37th minute for a poor tackle from behind near the halfway line, before an unmarked Aron Davies met a Thorsteinsson free-kick at the far post but saw his header unconvincingly turned behind.

The US squandered a good chance in the 58th minute when a throughball caught the Fulham defence flat-footed to send a striker racing clear. With Davies breathing down his neck, the American player sliced his shot high and wide.

Fulham made a double change in the 64th minute as Walker and the impressive Harris were replaced by Adebayo and Foday Nabay.

A US striker skewed a shot wide two minutes later, before de la Torre made way for Cassian Thomas. With his first touch Thomas forced the US keeper into a save with a fierce near-post drive. Isaac Pearce then entered the fray for the hard-working Humphrys with 10 minutes left.

The Whites went in front with five minutes remaining when a terrible back pass was played straight to Adebayo who toe poked past the outrushing keeper, prompting wild celebrations.
