Fulham progressed to the Final of the Dallas Cup after a gritty performance against Fluminense on Friday evening.

Fulham Under-19s qualified for the Final of the 2016 Dallas Cup following an eventful 3-2 victory over Fluminense on Friday evening.

First-half strikes from Stephen Humphrys and Aron Davies saw the Whites take a 2-1 lead into the break having trailed. However, a dramatic penalty in the closing stages from Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson saw the Whites walk away victorious and cancel out a Fluminense equaliser in the second half.

The first 10 minutes saw Fluminense dominate proceedings and control every aspect of the encounter without troubling Magnus Norman in the Fulham net. After withstanding an early barrage it was Josh Walker who came close to breaking the deadlock. Marlon Fossey found Walker in the penalty area but his shot was smartly saved and cleared.

Moments later the Brazilians were in front. After pouncing on a loose ball a Fluminense midfielder played a pin-point cross into the box which was dispatched into the far corner.

Fulham responded quickly with Fossey and Luca de la Torre linking up well down the right flank. Humphrys and Walker came close with two chances.

The Whites were back level just before half-time when Humphrys smashed home a free-kick from 30 yards. With Fluminense still rattled Fulham grabbed the lead through a superb goal from Davies. The centre-back gathered a powerful flick-on and proceeded to tee it up for himself with excellent close control. With little time to react Davies lashed home the volley and the Whites went in at half-time 2-1 up.

The Whites came close to extending their lead when Humphrys lashed a shot against the bar with the goalkeeper beaten.

With 14 minutes left, Fluminense snatched an equaliser and the encounter appeared destined for extra-time.

However, once again Fulham responded quickly and following a handball in the box, Thorsteinsson stepped up. He slotted the penalty home and the young Whites managed to hold on to a superb victory and qualify for the Final on Sunday.

The Whites will square off against Everton at the Toyota Stadium in Frisco on Sunday at 6pm.
