A last-gasp strike by Stephen Humphrys earned Fulham’s Under-18s a 2-1 win at Reading on Saturday.

A last-gasp strike by Stephen Humphrys earned Fulham’s Under-18s a 2-1 win at Reading on Saturday.

Josh Walker pounced on a mistake in the Reading defence to fire Fulham in front in the third minute. Humphrys blazed over soon after when he should have done better as the Whites came racing out of the blocks.

Reading responded and a dangerous free-kick was cleared by Aaron Davies, before Josh Lukwata made a good save and Tayo Edun cleared the rebound.

In the 25th minute great play saw Jayden Harris race down the right and find Mikolaj Kwietniewski, who was unmarked on the penalty spot, but saw his effort saved.

A good move 10 minutes later found Walker who rounded the keeper but with the angle too tight, pulled the ball back for Humphrys who had two shots blocked on the line.

From the clearance, Kwietniewski tripped a Reading player in the box to earn the home side a penalty. However, the spot-kick was saved by Lukwata, who made another fine stop five minutes before the break.

The second half was a dour affair to start with, but substitute Cassian Thomas made a fine tackle to prevent Reading from breaking away after a Fulham corner just before the hour mark.

The Royals, though, were level soon after when a cross from the right was tapped in from six yards.

Humphrys fluffed his lines with 15 minutes left after being found by Harris. The right-back then went for goal after a driving run but his shot was saved in the bottom corner.

With the game heading for a draw, Humphrys grabbed the winner. The ball dropped to him on the edge of the box and the striker drove a low shot into the far corner. There was no time for the restart as the Whites took the three points.
