Fulham fall to a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough on a bitterly cold night in the North-East on Friday night.

Fulham U-18s were eliminated from the FA Youth Cup on a bitterly cold Friday night in the North-East as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough.

After falling behind early on to a Patrick Lambert header the young Whites battled back through a Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson second half penalty. However, a Tyrone O'Neill strike minutes later was enough to see the hosts through.

With the temperature dropping below zero just after kick-off it was Boro who took an early lead. A speculative cross was not dealt with and Lambert was on hand to nod home from close range.

The goal came against the run of play but minutes later Middlesborough came close to doubling the lead in a free flowing encounter. Cassian Thomas with a superb block on the line to prevent a second before Mikolaj Kwietniewski saw his effort destined for the top corner clawed out by the keeper.

With the temperatures continuing to drop the Whites continued to probe for an opening. Taye Ashby-Hammond producing a fine save at the Boro strikers feed before Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson flashed an effort wide on the stroke of half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half Fulham were back level after Michael Elstone was felled in the box following a good run. Thorsteinsson was on hand to slot the penalty home and the Cup encoutner was all square once again.

However, the lead was short lived and 4 minutes later Jack Lambert played a perfect cross into the path of Tyrone O'Neill who did the rest.

A resiliant Middlesbrough side was tough to break down and despite a late surge Fulham were unable to battle back and the Cup run was over for the Young Whites.
