A brace from Nicolas Santos-Clase & a fantastic team performance sees the Young Whites through to the Fifth Round of the FA Youth Cup.

Fulham’s Under-18s won their Fifth Round tie of the FA Youth Cup in Swansea on Wednesday evening. Nicolas Santos-Clase scored a first-half brace to put the Young Whites into the next round.

It was a wet and windy evening in South Wales, the rain was relentless throughout the 90 minutes.

It was a strong opening ten minutes for Swansea City and it was the hosts with the first opportunity of the tie.

A corner was swung into the box and Mason Jones-Thomas got a shot away which was blocked by a black shirt, the follow up was on target and Luca Ashby-Hammond got low to make the save.

The Swans had another chance nine minutes in, Kees De Boer fired a free kick into the wall, he got hold of the rebound and shot across goal, firing wide of the right post.

Fulham started to control the ball and dictate play. A quarter of an hour in the Young Whites got their first shot away, Felix and Santos-Clase won the ball with some good pressure.

The Spaniard played Timmy Abraham in and the striker took a shot, with a wicked deflection he missed the top left corner by inches.

The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute. Santos-Clase skipped past 3 people to get into the box, but a defender got a half-clearance away. The Spaniard dropped and somehow recovered the ball and got away a deflected shot for a corner.

The ball was whipped in and the winger bulleted a header into the right of the net to give the Young Whites the lead, wheeling off in celebration with his team mates.

Fulham were dominating possession, Tyrese Francois curled a free-kick into the box and Jayden Harris headed inches over the bar.

Three minutes before half-time Santos-Clase doubled the Young Whites’ lead, along with his tally.

He won the ball and skipped past a diving challenge. He sprinted forward towards goal, Abraham split for a two on one but the winger went himself and drove a shot across goal, beating the keeper.

Santos-Clase almost grabbed his hat-trick five minutes into the second half. Abraham won a corner and Francois crossed into the box. Swansea headed only as far as Santos-Clase and he rifled a shot at goal, the ball rattled the crossbar.

Fulham started to sit deeper and played on the counter as Swansea tried to probe the Young Whites’ defence.

The Swans almost had a fantastic opportunity in the 78th minute as Jones-Thomas was played in through the middle, but Spence made it back and prevented a one on one with a superb sliding tackle in the box.

Santos-Clase had a couple more opportunities with eight minutes to go. Down the left channel under pressure he blasted over the bar. With three mintues on the clock he had another pop at goal for the top left corner, saved well by Alex Lang.

It was a fantastic team performance, and it sees them travel to Plymouth Argyle in the Fifth Round of the FA Youth Cup.
