Fulham beat Huddersfield Town on penalties to progress to the next round of the FA Youth Cup.

Fulham beat Huddersfield Town on penalties in the FA Youth Cup on Friday evening to progress to the fourth round. They will now face Swansea City away.

An explosive start to the match saw Chris Kelly score inside 15 seconds from kick off to give the Young Whites the lead.

A strong second half brought Town back into the game, before goal keeping heroics from Luca Ashby-Hammond took Fulham to the next stage of the competition.

As soon as the match kicked off the Young Whites looked to get on the score sheet. 15 seconds from Huddersfield kicking off, Timmy Abraham and Sonny Hilton pressed the defence and forced and error.

Kelly picked up the ball at the edge of the area and curled his shot with his left foot into the left of the net to make the perfect start for the Under-18s.

The Terriers were next with a good chance, eight minutes in Matthew Daly crossed early and Dominic Tear headed just over the bar.

Fulham then had a flurry of chances. Felix with a cutting through ball found Tyrese Francois racing down the left of the pitch, he was tackled out for a corner. Francois swung the ball in and the keeper came off his line to punch, however scuffed his clearance.

Nicolas Santos-Clase slammed an effort on target, but Huddersfield had bodies back and stopped the ball dead on the line before clearing.

Abraham was next with the chance, he beat the offside trap and was through left of the goal, the striker shot on target but the ball was parried away and out of trouble.

In the 24th minute Kelly attacked from the right. The goal scorer cut in beating his man, shooting with his left his effort was saved near post.

The Young Whites had a couple more half chances over the next eight minutes, Santos-Clase had a shot blocked at the edge of the area, and he also poked a shot on target near post from the left which didn’t trouble the keeper.

In the 35th minute Fulham had a chance to put some distance between themselves and the hosts, Spence with an overlapping run pulled the ball into the box for Kelly, but the goal scorer struck wide on the left post.

The game became end to end in the final 10 minutes of the half, Oliver Dyson and Tear had efforts wide for the hosts, Hilton and Abraham also at the other end of the pitch.

The first attack came from the Young Whites in the second half, Felix raced down the left and claimed a high through ball, only last ditch defending inside the box stopped him getting a shot on target.

Daly got a strong shot on goal and Luca Ashby-Hammond, who had been quiet until that point made a fantastic save with a strong hand to preserve his clean sheet.

The Terriers were piling on the pressure for a long period of time as the hosts were in search of an equaliser.

The got what were looking for eventually in the 78th minute. The ball was whipped across the packed box by High and Obiero was towering at the back post with the Young Whites’ defence finally succumbing.

Dan Martin had a golden chance to put the match to bed two minutes into injury time. Felix put him in on goal and he shot inches wide of the mark.

Fulham pressed for a goal throughout injury time, but none came so it was down to penalties. Ashby-Hammond made three saves and scored his own to win the match for the Young Whites.
