Fabio Carvalho scored a hat trick and gave Harvey Elliott an assist as the Young Whites put Reading to the sword on Saturday morning.

A dominant display from start to finish saw Fulham’s Under-18s beat Reading 4-0 on a drizzly Saturday morning at Motspur Park. Fabio Carvalho scored a hat trick and grabbed an assist.

Colin Omogbehin had wrung the changes to their starting lineup with their FA Youth Cup game on the horizon against Plymouth this coming week.

Fulham controlled the first half throughout, in the 12th minute Carvalho was through on goal but the keeper came off his line to extinguish the attack. In the next play Harvey Elliot hooked a shot over the bar from the right of the box.

Fulham were putting pressure on the Reading backline, but the Royals were still holding out. 17 minutes in the Young Whites had thought they had scored.

Elliott down the left cheekily chipped the keeper with his left and the ball rolled off the right post and out for a goal kick.

Elliott went close again three minutes later, this time down the right he beat the left back and fired at goal, forcing a save.

In the 24th minute, Carvalho went close from a corner, heading inches wide, the pressure was all from Fulham.

Reading had their first chance three minutes later, Michael Cuse tried an acrobatic effort, but with the ball behind him he couldn’t get anything on target.

The best chance of the half came in the next play, Ryan De Havilland chipped the entire defence for Tristan Cover to run onto, he headed on target but unfortunately it was straight at the keeper.

Fulham made the breakthrough in the 41st minute, the Young Whites had a barrage of shots through Jonathan Page, but it was Carvalho who picked up the rebound, turned well and slotted into the bottom right to make it 1-0.

Two minutes into the second half George Wickens was called into action for the first time, he made a shot stick in his gloves.

Carvalho scored his second five minutes into the half as the ball was played long and knocked down in the box, the number 10 smashed the ball into the top left corner for his second.

In the 55th minute Fulham made it 3-0, Carvalho, on a hat trick selflessly from the 6-yard line passed to Elliott, who smashed an effort on target, bouncing off a defender on the way in to make it 3-0.

68 minutes into the match the referee decided a Scott Armsworth challenge in the box was worthy of a penalty. The Reading striker stepped up, Wickens dived to his right making a fantastic save to preserve his clean sheet.

Carvalho got his hattrick in the 74th minute, Fulham won their own penalty from a handball. The keeper guessed the correct way, but with so much power on the shot he had no chance of keeping it out. The match was over by that point.
