Carvalho & Ablade Provide Needed Win

Saturday 23 February 2019 14:33

Fulham Under-18s secured their first win since October with a comfortable 2-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

Second half goals from Fabio Carvalho and Terry Ablade rounded off an almost perfect performance in Norfolk.

The opening stages were frantic as both sides struggled to retain possession. Luca Ashby-Hammond’s wayward pass nearly presented Tom Dickson-Peters with a simple finish but the stopper did well to atone for his error.

At the other end, Ryan De Havilland’s quick thinking set Showkat Tahir clear down the right, the wide man’s ball across inches from the oncoming Tiehi.

A game of pinball resulted from Tiehi’s sheer power, but The Canaries managed to hack it clear with Sylvester Jasper waiting to pounce.

Sonny Hilton’s powerful run added a direct approach to the Young Whites’ game. The midfielder’s shot was weak and gathered easily by Dan Barden. Tahir was getting joy down the right with multiple cut-backs being intercepted by the Norwich back-line.

Norwich were employing a long, direct route into the channels which Kole Lambert was feeding off. Confusion in the box saw Dickson-Peters stride onto the loose ball and force a heroic block from Connor McAvoy.

The second half saw two positive changes from boss Colin Omogbehin as Terry Ablade and Timmy Abraham came on to try and force the issue.

De Havilland nipped into win the ball and sent a shot that was always swerving away from Barden’s goal. The Whites were turning the screw, and Carvalho’s inventiveness created the best chance of the game. Jasper was free six-yards out but somehow his header dragged wide.

The pressure was telling as the two combined again. Jasper this time the provider, as he tricked his way inside to find Carvalho in a wide area. The midfielder beat his man and emphatically slammed home with precision.

The Canaries persisted with their set plays from wide areas as substitute Josh Giurgi delivered a cross into the head of Will Hondermarck. However, Zico Asare marshalled him well to ensure his header coasted out of play.

Fulham hit The Canaries with a sucker punch as the hosts pushed for a leveller. Hilton’s hopeful ball was chased down by Ablade, who was fresh off the bench. The forward poked home ahead of the keeper.

His fellow sub Timmy Abraham could have extended the lead to add a glossy finish but he blazed over from ten yards.

Fulham held out convincingly to record their first win since October.
