The Under-18s continued their scintillating form in front of goal to move top of the Premier League South after dispatching Southampton for five on Saturday morning.

Fulham Move Top With Free-Scoring Win

Saturday 14 September 2019 13:50

Main Action:

The Under-18s continued their scintillating form in front of goal to move top of the Premier League South after dispatching Southampton for five on Saturday morning.

Sylvester Jasper’s brace, Fabio Carvalho, Terry Ablade and Mika Biereth rubber stamped an emphatic performance to put their visitors to the sword.

Fabio Carvalho instantly clicked into gear after Adrion Pajaziti won the ball high. He was slid in by Jasper to force a smart save from Olly Wright.

The breakthrough came from another man in form. Ablade put the burners on in the channel to square for Jasper who provided a two-touch finish.

The same combination, this time reversed. Jasper turned provider and poked a through ball into Ablade who was never likely to be caught. His composed finish had Fulham in control after quarter of an hour.

Jasper’s trickery again posed a real threat as Wright was forced to sprawl across at full extent to push away his strong curler. The potent front three continued to be a menace as Jay Stansfield found Ablade who forced wright to tip around the corner. From the resulting corner, a training ground routine found Jonathon Page, but he couldn’t get over his header.

The Saints grew into the game as they fought for a route back in. Ryan Cluett found the ball after Seamus Keogh cut the ball back, but an excellent Luca Murphy block denied him.

Southampton gradually looked the more likely. Jack Turner cracked a first-time half-volley which bent away from George Wickens into the far corner.

Stansfield had been quiet for his high standards, but he burst into the game as he ran Sam Bailey ragged down the line to cut inside. His strike needed a strong fist to prevent it finding the roof of the net.

He was at it again to put daylight back between the sides. Stansfield broke down the right to square for Jasper. The other source of goals had his first shot blocked but managed to toe poke the rebound into the corner.

The result became even more emphatic as Fabio Carvalho chested a ball from the sky and volleyed a clean strike into the corner. The two subs then combined to put a glossy finish on an excellent performance. Jean-Pierre Tiehi’s powerful run freed Biereth who scored with ease.

What That Means:

With Chelsea playing Brighton, and drawing, the boys move to the summit of the league on goal difference.

Notable Talking Points:

  • Steve Wigley made just one change from the win over Leicester with Terry Ablade starting his first game of the season.
  • Jasper’s double means he pull level with Stansfield with five for the season, a combined total of ten between them.
  • Biereth’s goal is the second time in three games he has netted from the bench.
