Patrick Roberts scores for the U21s, but it’s not enough as the Whites lose 3-1 to Leicester City.

With Fernando Amorebieta marking his return from injury as well as Patrick Roberts and Jack Grimmer in the starting line-up, the Whites U21s would have been hoping for a lot more from this game.

However it was Leicester City who stormed to an early lead with two goals within the first 11 minutes.

Patrick Roberts got one back for Fulham before half-time, but a 71st minute goal from Anthony Knockaert sealed the game in Leicester City’s favour.

The first shot of the match went to the visitors in the second minute when Knockaert fired over. Although Fulham responded well with a strong attacking period it was just four minutes later that Leicester midfielder McCourt curled in the first goal from 20 yards out.

Panayiotou then doubled the lead for the Foxes in the eleventh minute, chesting the ball down before striking on the half volley.

Leicester then settled into their stride looking comfortable and strong, but it was Patrick Roberts who broke the flow of play netting one for the Whites in the 36th minute.

Plumain was there to pull the ball back for Taggart after Roberts slid the ball through following a driving run. Taggart then set up Roberts who hit a low drive into the corner of the net from 12 yards out.

Just three minutes later and the Whites had almost levelled the score when Taggart smashed the crossbar from close range following a cross from Mesca.

An even start to the second half saw both sides fire out a few chances at either end. But just as the Whites started to get a grip on the game and look a serious threat, Leicester City were awarded a penalty as Foxes substitute Chilwell was clipped by Buatu in the box after a strong pacy run. Knockaert converted to take the game for Leicester in the 71st minute.
