Fulham beat Crawley Town 3-1 on Wednesday night in their final Checkatrade Trophy match.

Fulham’s Under-21 beat Crawley Town 3-1 on Wednesday night in their final Checkatrade Trophy match. Both teams came into this game unable to progress to the next round.

Elijah Adebayo headed the Whites into lead before Jordan Graham scored a second on the brink of half time.

Town looked like they had got themselves back into the game 75 minutes in through Ibrahim Meite, but Graham scored nine minutes later to seal the match.

The first attack fell to the Whites, a long searching ball was controlled well by Graham, he passed Rafa Soares through into the box. The Portuguese beat his defender and crossed into the area but no one was there to get on the end.

Crawley showed their first attacking intent in the 11th minute, Meite crossed through the box and Soares covered to head the danger out of play.

Crawley forced Luca Ashby-Hammond to save in the 16th minute, Aryan Tajbakhsh shot from inside the area and the young Fulham keeper punched away.

Five minutes later it was Fulham who went close. Graham with some clever footwork shook his defender and lofted a ball to Mattias Kait at the front post, however the Estonian could only head into the side netting.

25 minutes in and Crawley broke dangerously, Mark Randall shot centrally from 20-yards out and Ashby-Hammond made the block. The Crawley Town player was going for the rebound but Aron Davies made the tackle at the crucial moment.

Fulham made the breakthrough in the 31st minute. Graham played Soares in down the left into the box but he was dispossessed, however Graham won the ball back immediately.

The on-loan winger looked up and crossed to Adebayo at the back-post, he scuffed his shot but managed to head the ball just over the line as Yusuf Mersin got his hands to the ball.

It could have been a second for Adebayo minutes later, Soares pulled a ball back for the striker, but it was just behind Adebayo and he fluffed his lines.

Just before the halftime whistle though Fulham made their good spell count, Adebayo sprinted down the right for a ball over the top, under pressure he crossed through the box and found Graham.

Graham took a touch to change direction and rifled his shot into the back of the net for the second.

The first quarter of an hour in the second half Crawley were pressing, looking to get back into the match. They won a free kick 20 yards out but Doherty shot over the bar.

Fulham had several chances, Yohaman Mollo cleared the bar and then Graham had a low shot saved near post. Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson almost made an immediate impact when he came on in the 70th minute curling a shot top left but a good save denied him.

Ashby-Hammond was beaten in the 75th minute, a very good strike from the top of the D by Meite. The forward found the top corner making it 2-1 with a quarter of an hour left in the tie.

Graham sealed the tie in the 84th minute, Aron Davies made a good tackle from a corner, Mikolaj Kwietniewski made a first time pass to set Graham off, played onside by the halfway line. He sprinted to goal, dragged the ball past the keeper to slot his second and secure the victory for the Whites.
