It was two goals for Nathan Tella and two red cards for Fulham on Friday evening in the PL2 at Motspur Park.

Fulham’s Under-23s lost 2-0 at home on Friday evening to Southampton. A goal in the opening minute from Nathan Tella made it an uphill battle for the Whites.

Both Marlon Fossey and Moritz Jenz were sent off in the second half, and Tella was able to score his second goal in-between the two red cards.

Fulham got off to the worst start possible, within 20 seconds of kick off Southampton scored the opening goal.

A stray back pass was picked up by Tella, the winger slotted past Magnus Norman for the early breakthrough.

Fulham were playing longer balls forward, 9 minutes into the match and Norman made a strong save at his near post to keep the deficit to one.

Southampton won several corners and applied pressure, but it was Fulham that went closest.

In the 24th and 25th minute Harris had opportunities, with his first shot his touch let him down, however, he blasted his second from over 30 yards and missed by inches.

In the 33rd minute a dangerous ball was whipped into the box by Fossey. The shot came off Santos-Clase and Jack Rose caught the ball.

Elijah Adebayo had the best opportunity of the half to equalise in the 34th minute. He was played in clean through on goal, in a one on one with Rose the keeper spread himself well and made a crucial save.

3 minutes before the break, Michael Obafemi hooked a shot past Norman’s right post.

Southampton had a great chance five minutes into the second half. Tella was through on goal for a one on one, Norman sprinted off his line and made a superb save on the edge of his area.

Fulham in the next minute worked their way down the pitch, Ryan De Havilland carved open the defence with a fantastic curling ball to the on-running Santos-Clase.

The striker got a touch that looked like it would beat Rose, but a fantastic reaction save kept the advantage for the Saints.

Fulham’s attempts to drag themselves back into the tie were severely hampered in the 62nd minute. Fossey went in for a challenge with Ben Rowthorn, the referee pulled out a straight red and gave him his marching orders.

Even with a man down, it was Fulham that had the attacking intent to try and salvage something from the match, balls being sent into the box from either side.

In the 74th minute De Haviiland went close, he wrapped his foot around the ball and just missed the top right corner.

Tella scored his second from a quick break in the 82nd minute, slotting past Norman to secure the victory for the Saints. In the next minute, Jenz picked up a second yellow and joined Fossey in the stands, which finished off the match for Fulham.
