Baggies Capitalise To Take Points

Main Action:

A debut goal from Josh Onomah proved in-vain as West Brom secured all three points at Motspur Park on Monday night.

Both sides struggled to get into a rhythm of any meaningful attack in the opening exchanges as both sides included bright prospects.

The opening goal came as a result of this, as Rayhaan Tulloch won the ball high after a lax pass and curled one into the far corner past Magnus Norman. Tyrese Francois almost responded immediately as he wriggled through forcing a low save from Brad House.

Despite the hosts having large parts of the ball, the Baggies struck again. Nick Clayton-Phillips with a similar finish to his teammate for the opener, leaving Norman with no chance.

Debutant Onomah found the desired response the lads needed as he slammed home a free kick via a deflection as the Young Whites trailed by one at the interval. The scorer departed in his search for fitness and was replaced by Ben Davis.

Martell Taylor-Crossdale had the first sighting to try and level the game as his firs time strike flew over. He then found a cut-back from Luca de la Torre which grazed the base of the far post.

Fulham continued to look the likelier as Tyrese Francois flew into a tackle and sent a driven cross in that was diverted away for a corner. The resulting ball found the towering Jerome Opoku who nodded wide.

A brief power outage threatened to stop the momentum, but opportunities continued to flow. Norman kept his side in it after spreading himself to save a point-blank one-on-one. The stopper was beaten moments later as Chris Willock jinked to the by-line and provide Jamie Soule with a first-time finish.

House was at his best to produce a stunning save from Taylor-Crossdale as it looked as though Fulham’s luck was out.

What That Means:

The Under-23s now sit joint bottom of the PL2 Division Two with Newcastle after their second loss in as many games. We now prepare to face Stoke City on Bank Holiday Monday.

Notable Talking Points:

  • Josh Onomah made his first start in a Fulham shirt following his arrival from Spurs and marked it with a goal.
  • Zico Asare made his first full appearance for the Under-23s after his transition from the Under-18s last season.
