Arsenal put six goals past Fulham Under-18s in a day to forget at Colney Training Centre.

Arsenal Under-18s put six goals past our Under-18s in a day to forget at Colney Training Centre.

The Gunners found themselves three up at half time and two further goals early in the second half took any momentum away from the Young Whites. Terry Ablade and Harvey Elliott responded late-on.

Arsenal started trying to play an early route between the Fulham lines. Sam Greenwood fired a shot over from 25 yards in the opening moments as a warning sign.

It took 12 minutes for the hosts to open the scoring. A driven cross found its way to Yunnus Musah and the wide man emphatically fired into the top corner. Arsenal’s midfielders were finding too much time on the ball, which pushed Fulham’s defence deeper and deeper.

A stray pass provided Matt Smith with the opportunity to play in Ben Cottrell as Luca Ashby-Hammond swatted away to shot. Sonny Hilton sliced a shot over the bar as Cody Drameh’s precise cross with the outside of the boot was only half cleared.

The Young Whites were becoming their own worst enemy as Ashby-Hammond presented the ball to Florian Balogun – Zico Asare was forced to bring him down inside the box and the forward converted the penalty himself.

Matt Smith found himself in space on the corner of the box and disguised a strike low into the near post. Greenwood’s deft flick presented Balogun with another opportunity which he dragged wide.

The Young Whites never really got a foothold in the game as the Gunners moved the ball with a high intensity, the half grew older and legs began to tire. The game looked far beyond comeback at the break.

The restart couldn’t have gone worse. Balogun sprung the offside trap to round Ashby-Hammond and slot home. Moments later Smith’s cross was tapped in by the free Musah at the back. Greenwood was picking gaps in the tiring back four but was denied by Ashby-Hammond with a low block.

The stopper was called into action again to prevent Balogun from netting his treble from the edge of the box.

Mark McGuiness’ presence meant he had the aerial ability to direct a header, which Fulham escaped unscathed.

When the Young Whites did click into gear the game was all but beyond them. Showkat Tahir cut inside to force Karl Hein into a smart low stop. The resulting corner was smartly finished by Ablade, fresh off the bench as he found a yard of space.

Fabio Carvalho spooned his shot over the top after more good work from Tahir. Suddenly life was sparked into the side. Elliott shuffled inside and rattled the cross back with a curling strike.

The winger then struck as Hilton played a nice one-two with Elliott and he made no mistake curling into the far corner.

Zak Swanson then danced into the box and fired into the top corner to conclude proceedings.
