Ablade Seals Back-to-Back Wins

Sunday 21 October 2018 12:10

Fulham Under-18s came from behind to beat Brighton and secure back-to-back wins in the Premier League.

Fabio Carvalho and Terry Ablade finished off two gorgeous moves after Danny Cashman put the hosts ahead early on.

Fulham carved out the first opening of the game in the early stages. A well worked corner between Sylvester Jasper and Carvalho led to the latter testing Piotr Zalewski in Brighton’s goal.

Danny Cashman provided Brighton’s first goal with their first shot. Ryan Longman went on a mazy run and clipped a perfect ball into the forward, who poked past George Wickens. Carvalho and Jasper were causing problems down the left and the pair combined to flash a ball across out of reach of Ollie O’Neil.

O’Neil was involved again to force another save, which forced the ‘keeper off with injury. Fresh from International duty, Carvalho looked sharp as he wriggled through Brighton’s stubborn defence and he sent a toe-poke trickling agonisingly across the goal line.

The pressure ramped up on the Seagulls but the Young Whites grew frustrated. Tristan Cover’s delightful cross narrowly missed O’Neil at the back then Ben Davis’ snapshot forced sub goalkeeper Finn Talley into a smart save from close range.

Ablade came on at the break to inject a fresh dimension on the forward play. The possession continued to be in front of Albion, which suited them perfectly under the sunshine on the coast.

The best move of the game led to a deserved leveller. McAvoy, O’Neil, Jasper and Carvalho combined superbly with a one touch passage. The midfielder buried a low drive in off the post with immense precision.

The constant strain on the Brighton back line was beginning to tell. Davis stole the ball in a good position and slipped in Ablade off the shoulder. Talley came out well to smother his first-time effort.

Ablade’s return from injury was marked with a stunning finish. Another sublime one touch move allowed the forward to curl a shot in off the bar into the corner.

The only other chance the hosts could muster was a good one. Longman’s powerful run ended with a shot which hit the outside of the post.

A hefty stoppage occurred after Zico Asare’s tackle on Jack Spong which forced him off on a stretcher, we wish him a speedy recovery. The closing stages saw some nervous clearances from both sides but Fulham held on.
