A spirited performance from Fulham Under-18s wasn't enough to stop Tottenham putting four past the Young Whites.

Dominant Spurs Score Four

Saturday 30 March 2019 12:57

A spirited performance from Fulham Under-18s wasn't enough to stop Tottenham putting four past the Young Whites at Spurs’ Training Ground on Saturday morning.

Goals at regular intervals from the hosts ensured they kept up the pressure on league leaders Arsenal.

The opening stages were strikingly similar to the 1-1 draw back at Motspur Park. Spurs dominated possession, but it was Timmy Abraham who burst through for the first sight of goal. Harvey Elliott’s strong run found the centre forward but he could only poke one at Josh Oluwayemi.

The pattern continued, and whilst Spurs were dominant the blistering counter remained an option. Sonny Hilton got to the by-line and delivered a ball across the six-yard line.

Fulham grew into the game as the half wore on. The chances had dried up but more solidarity on the ball was a small price to pay against a formidable Tottenham side who were posting over 60 league goals this season.

Spurs had their desired opening from the spot. Cody Drameh brought down Rayan Clarke in the area. Armando Shashoua stepped up casually and in the most unfortunate of circumstances the ball struck the post, hit Luca Ashby-Hammond, and trickled into the corner.

The hosts took their slender advantage into the interval, despite the Young Whites edging the chance count.

The title chasers came out quickly and forced Ashby-Hammond into a world-class save from point-blank range. Luis Binks found a loose ball at his feet from five yards out but the outstanding reflexes of the stopper denied him.

The game was flourishing into an open affair. Elliott cut inside to sting the palms of Oluwayemi. Spurs had their second in a game that was bound to have another goal. Shashoua pounced on a rebound after another smart save from Ashby-Hammond.

Substitute Showkat Tahir’s run from out-to-in was spotted by Fabio Carvalho. The winger took it down well to dummy a couple of challenges but a combination of Binks and Malachi Walcott averted the danger.

The hosts were unlocking the door more fluently as Fulham chased the game. Chay Cooper stepped inside and fired a tame shot at the England Youth International. Dilan Markanday made the performance convincing. He seized on a poor pass and fired into the corner.

Fulham persisted to make opportunities as Drameh surged in down the right to force a sprawling stop from Oluwayemi.

The two Tottenham subs combined to add a fourth. Michael Craig crossed for Elliott Thorpe to head home. Fulham face Brighton next Saturday as they enter their final month of fixtures.
