A Terry Ablade brace saw Fulham Under-18s claim a valuable point against Southampton
Saturday 25 August 2018 13:56

Fulham were held to a draw by Southampton in the Under-18s Premier League on Saturday after Connor McAvoy was sent-off ten minutes into the second half.

The young Whites were pegged back twice after a Terry Ablade brace had put them in the box seat.

Fulham started the game brightly, with sustained spells of possession. This was quickly rewarded after three minutes. Ben Davis picked out Ablade with a through ball into the channel. The frontman made no mistake, rounding Bycroft and slotting home.

Ablade could have had a second a few moments later. The ball fell at his feet under pressure and he could only poke a shot from six yards, which was pushed behind for a corner.

However, The Saints levelled after 18 minutes. George Wickens was on hand to make a smart save to deny Enzo Robsie, but the rebound fell to Christian Norton who volleyed home.

The goal came against the run of play and The Young Whites began to assert themselves again. Tahir fired over from 20 yards, he looked bright throughout. Sylvester Jasper then tried his luck from a similar distance.

Fulham took the lead again after 33 minutes. Ablade spun and arrowed a shot into the far corner from a Harvey Elliott pull back to restore the advantage. The striker could have had a hat-trick five minutes later. Bycroft presented the ball in space to Ablade who fired a tame shot at the Southampton ‘keeper.

After the interval, Southampton created chances of their own. Watts’ flick from a cross hit the base of the post. Shortly after, McAvoy was shown a straight red card for a clash off the ball with his man. The Young Whites were forced to play much of the half with ten men.

However, this didn’t stop Fulham from trying to extend their lead. Just past the hour mark Carvalho saw his shot saved from six yards. From the resulting corner, Tahir sliced his volley over the top.

As fatigue crept in, Southampton found an equaliser. Some intricate play down the right meant that Kayne Ramsey could pull one back for Will Ferry to tap home.

Fulham could have won it late on after some nice link-up play between substitute Jean-Pierre Tiehi and Ben Davis, but the spoils were shared at the full-time whistle.

Fulham will now prepare for their trip to West Ham next week.
