The Under-18s hit double figures past a spirited South Shields side to progress into the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday night.

Under-18s Hit Ten

Wednesday 11 December 2019 21:04

Main Action:

The Under-18s hit ten past a spirited South Shields side to progress into the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday night.

A hat-trick from Jay Stansfield, braces for Jean-Pierre Tiehi and Sylvester Jasper, and strikes from Ollie O’Neill, Mika Biereth and Fabio Carvalho completed a rout at Motspur Park.

South Shields started with a bravery that didn’t reflect their position in the footballing pyramid, but it was Carvalho that had the first sight as he got under a strike from the edge of the box.

The intricacy of the flair players shone through as Ollie O’Neill was chopped down in the area allowing Stansfield to step up from 12-yards to convert.

The boys quickly settled after the goal as Shields struggled to deal with sharp movement. A patient move ended with a marauding Cody Drameh squaring for the sliding Tiehi to convert.

Just two minutes passed, and the Frenchman had another. On the opposite flank O’Neill got to the by-line and found the forward lurking in the six-yard box. A frightening ten minutes for the visitors was compounded when the in-form Stansfield pounced on a loose ball to lift it into the net.

Jasper had been quiet for large parts, but he was involved to hammer home from a central area. Another two minutes passed, with another goal arriving – taking the tally to six. O’Neill picked up the ball inside the area to lift in a smart finish.

The second half showed no signs of easing the pressure on the visitors. Tiehi was chasing a hat-trick as Carvalho found him unmarked but he blazed over. The score was kept down by a string of saves from Aaron Steavens in the Shields goal who denied Carvalho, Tiehi and Jasper.

Stansfield had another accolade to his name as he completed another hat-trick. Terry Ablade struck a fierce shot that was mopped up by the clinical forward. The substitutes were combining to compile the misery. This time Biereth found space to hammer home Jasper’s cushion. The winger couldn’t resist the action as Ablade jinked through challenges to feed the tricky wide man who fired a curler into the corner.

South Shields deserved credit for their efforts, and they got their goal with five minutes to play as Rob Nyland lifted over Las. The double figure tally was amassed deep into injury time as Carvalho rampaged through to fire home and complete a resounding win.

What That Means:

The lads are in the hat for the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

Notable Talking Points:

  • Cody Drameh started for the Under-18s for the first time this season following his spell with the Under-23s.
  • Stansfield netted another hat-trick in a Fulham shirt.
  • The Under-18s have already surpassed last year’s journey after falling at the first hurdle against Leicester in 2018.
