U18s Put Four Past Reading

Sunday 2 February 2020 17:47

Main Action:

An Adrion Pajaziti inspired performance ensured that the Under-18s put four past Reading to further solidify their spot at the top of the table.

A double from the midfielder, along with a stunner from Michael Olakigbe and Ibane Bowat’s finish put a glossy finish on the result heading into the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night.

A game that lacked any cutting-edge found its spark through an unlikely source. A loose ball found its way to Pajaziti in the middle of the box who dispatched first time into the top corner with his instep.

Without really threatening Damian Las, Reading found an equaliser through a freak moment. A ball in from the left was met by a diving header in the shape of Idris Odutayo that skewed into the top corner.

The game sleepwalked into half time with neither side creating clear-cut openings. Ten minutes into the second half, a thunderbolt stunned The Royals. Michael Olakigbe, stepping up from the Under-16s curled a wicked drive into the top corner from 25-yards.

It appeared to be a game of firsts. Two minutes later, Ibane Bowat popped up with his first goal of the season. Pajaziti’s teasing cross was prodded home by the big centre half. Fulham attempted to kill the game as Reading searched for a route back in. Mika Biereth wriggled free down the right and squared for Xavier Benjamin who lofted over.

The wind begun to cause havoc. Pajaziti was spraying passes and stood over a set play. His corner swirled into a dangerous area and beat everyone lurking to soar into the top corner.

What That Means:

Steve Wigley’s side strengthen their stronghold at the top of the Under-18 Premier League South, level on points with Chelsea, with a game in hand.

Notable Talking Points:

  • Michael Olakigbe netted his first goal for the Under-18s.
  • Adrion Pajaziti recorded his first strikes of the season with a brace.
  • The Under-18s have now scored 46 goals this season.
