With the Club close to the drop zone in 1990, Alan Dicks arrived at Jimmy Hill's behest to help Ray Lewington.

Initially, Dicks was a 'consultant,' but by the start of the next season he was installed as Manager, with Lewington stepping down to become his Assistant.

Managing Fulham was Dicks' first job in English football for a decade. He was liked as a person but the team struggled on the pitch and in his only full season in charge, Fulham finished 21st.

A humiliating FA Cup defeat to Hayes, six divisions lower, in November 1991, was the end for Dicks and weeks later he left Fulham and football.
