Appointed on Valentine’s Day 2014, Felix Magath took over as First Team Manager at Fulham tasked with retaining the Club’s Premier League status.
The Whites were bottom of the table at this time and the German got off to a solid enough start with a draw at West Bromwich Albion in his first game, although he had to wait until mid-March to secure three points – a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at Craven Cottage.
Back-to-back victories at Aston Villa and at home to Norwich City prompted hopes that Fulham could get out of trouble, especially when they went 2-0 up against Hull City in the next home game.
But a late comeback by the Tigers meant it was one point instead of three – a massive blow to our hopes of survival, with relegation confirmed the following week when Stoke City ran out 4-1 winners at the Britannia Stadium.
Magath oversaw a significant squad overhaul in the summer, but results did not pick up in the second tier, and a record of one point out of a possible 21 saw him replaced by Under-21 Manager Kit Symons on what was initially a caretaker basis.
