The Board turned to a former Fulham player in 1926 in Joe Bradshaw, son of ex-Whites manager Harry.
Joe was born in Burnley in 1880, and played on the right wing for Fulham during his father's time at the Cottage 20 years earlier.
He had previously been with Southampton and Woolwich Arsenal (with his father) and, on leaving Fulham in 1909, he had spells at Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers and Southend United. It was at Southend in 1911 that he started in management, initially as player-manager, but after 1913, on a full-time basis.
After the First World War, in 1919, he stepped up to the Football League with Swansea City, and it was from South Wales that Fulham recruited him.
However, in his second season at the Club, the Whites dropped into the Third Division for the first time. When he failed to win promotion at the first attempt, his contract was not renewed.
