
Gordon Davies Becomes Fulham's All-Time Leading Goalscorer

Three weeks after equaling Johnny Haynes' 18 year old record, Gordon 'Ivor' Davies had finally done it. In a 5-2 defeat away to Wolves, the much loved Fulham striker scored in the 21st minute to pull the game back to 2-1 - his 158th goal for Fulham - making him the Club's highest ever goalscorer. Modest as ever, Ivor said afterwards that he wasn't even thinking of the record and was just "glad to pull a goal back to get us back into the game". A disappointing first leg defeat away at Bristol Rovers where the Whites lost 1-0 was hugely overshadowed by the second leg, which saw Fulham lose 4-0 under the floodlights at Craven Cottage. Losing 5-0 on aggregate was a bitter pill to swallow after such a successful league campaign, and it would be a while before Fulham had a realistic chance of gaining promotion again..
