Scott Parker was pleased with the integration of his younger players, who appeared in the first team squad for the first time this evening.
Parker's Fulham side fell 1-0 to Southampton in the Carabao Cup with a number of Academy players getting valuable minutes.
Michael Obafemi's second half goal was enough to secure the win for the Premier League side but the hosts pushed them until the final whistle.
“I’m really pleased with the first half - the way we played, the way we moved the ball, I felt we had good control of the game,” Scott explained.
“I felt we looked a threat in the first half.
“If a goal goes in, it may have changed things a bit against a very strong side.
“Southampton came here tonight with full guns and it’s fair to say we found the second half a little bit tougher.
“It was a good test for us, good for the boys who haven't played to get 90 minutes.
“The most pleasing thing for me was that the young players got a chance to be involved and around it.
“This football club’s known to give young players an opportunity and it’s certainly something I believe in.
“I want every young player at this football club to understand that if they do things the right way, work hard, they'll get an opportunity.
“When you are young, it’s about opportunity, so it was a big plus to see the young boys on tonight, even if it was for two or three minutes, it’s still a massive experience for them.
“Overall, I’m really pleased with how the night’s gone; the four debuts, the six young Academy lads who were involved and the senior players who have had a very good pre-season have come in and got some game time.”
