Fulham Under-18s are sitting at the summit after Saturday's 2-0 win at Southampton and centre-back Ibane Bowat believes that "our team cohesion and hard work" are the main reasons for the fantastic run of form.

They were made to work for the three points though, with the deadlock being broken in the 64th minute.

"Southampton are a well-organised side and we had to work hard to grab those three points. We created opportunities but struggled to put the ball in the net in the first half, but through perseverance we managed to grab two and keep a clean sheet."

Steve Wigley's side have conceded just one goal in their last three games and Bowat is pleased the team are replicating last year's strong defensive record.

"As a defender, it's pleasing to concede so few goals. We're trying to continue the record from last season through collective defensive work."

The 18-year-old spent time on the sidelines but is pleased to be back out on the pitch contributing for his side.

"It felt really great to be back out there against Southampton. I had been out for three weeks due to injury and I needed to quarantine for two weeks following a Covid-19 incident during my time with Scotland."
