Aleksandar Mitrović captained Serbia as they ended the international period on a high with an impressive 5-0 victory over Russia on Wednesday evening.

It was the first time the frontman has led his country out, although he had been given the armband midway through a game last year.

Mitro played the full 90 minutes of the Nations League clash in Belgrade, with the emphatic result meaning Serbia avoided relegation from League B Group 3.

Marek Rodák added two full Slovakia caps to his CV in the last few days. He was in stunning form in a 1-0 win over Scotland on Sunday (see below), but couldn’t prevent his side slipping to a 2-0 defeat by the Czech Republic.

The mixed bag of results meant Slovakia finished bottom of their Nations League group.

Neeskens Kebano was the Democratic Republic of Congo’s hero in the second of their two meetings with Angola, coming off the bench to bag the only goal of the game.

He had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes when he collected the ball midway inside the opposition half, skipped beyond two Angola players, and lashed a fine strike into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

The win blows Group D wide open in qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations, with DR Congo now just sitting a point behind pacesetters Gambia and Gabon with two games to play.

The first meeting with Angola had ended in a goalless draw, with Kebano playing the first 45 minutes.

Elsewhere, Cameroon made it two wins from two against Mozambique, with Frank Anguissa playing the entirety of their 2-0 victory.

As hosts of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon do not need to qualify, but they sit six points clear in Group F nonetheless.

Ola Aina helped Nigeria keep a clean sheet in their goalless draw in Sierra Leone on Tuesday. The game was in stark contrast to their 4-4 draw with the same opposition four days earlier, when Nigeria squandered a four goal advantage. Aina, though, was an unused substitute for that one.

The two points gained were enough to keep Nigeria at the top of Group L. One victory from their next two qualifiers will be enough to secure their place at AFCON.

Tim Ream captained a youthful United States side to a lively 6-2 friendly victory over Panama in Austria. Antonee Robinson was an unused substitute.

It was the seventh time that Ream has led his country, with nobody wearing the armband more regularly under current head coach Gregg Berhalter.

Finally, Bobby De-Cordova Reid and Michael Hector racked up the air miles with a friendly double header away to Saudi Arabia.

The pair came off the bench for the initial 3-0 defeat, but were in from the start as the Reggae Boyz enacted revenge with a 2-1 win three days later.
