Fabio Carvalho saluted the travelling pack of Fulham fans in South East London after his contributions grabbed all three points.
The midfielder flew out of the traps and provided the assist for Aleksandar Mitrović’s opener then got on the scoresheet himself.
“It was a great win for us, but it could’ve been a lot more comfortable,” he told fulhamfc.com. “Towards the end of the game we felt their pressure. They got their fortunate goal and were spurred on by their fans. I want to say thank you to our fans as well, they kept us going when it got tough. They helped us see out the game and get the result we thoroughly deserved.
“The game could’ve been done and dusted from the get-go. I had a few more chances I should’ve buried, we had a couple more that could’ve had us out of sight. We needed to be a bit more clinical. We spoke inside as a collective, it’s good we’re creating these chances, the clinical nature will come. If we keep performing like this, we’ll score lots of goals.”
Carvalho’s trademark run to the by-line is becoming a theme of success for Marco Silva’s side. It’s a run that Carvalho has been perfecting throughout his time in the Academy.
“I’ve been working on getting into positions like that throughout my time at Fulham and through the academy. The coaches have helped me a lot. I can get behind making those runs so easily, we’ll keep creating chances.

“We work on Marco’s ideas every day. It’s so direct and there’s a target to every pass and position. We want to go forward and play with freedom because goals win games.
“We’ve got the players to break scoring records! We’ve got players that can score, create and finish. We’ve got a great squad with a lot of talent and a blend of youth and experience. The older boys have helped me to keep pushing myself.”
The one blot on the copybook of Fulham’s start is a concession in each of the first three games. The 18-year-old knows things will tighten up and the goals will keep flowing.
“Defending starts from the front,” he continued. “We need to work on tightening up as we have conceded in every game, but we’ve also scored in every game. As long as we keep scoring, we’ll be fine, but we’ll work on tightening up at the back.
“My goals and assist return has been okay. As long as we do a good job on the pitch and as long as I play with a smile on my face, I’ll be fine. I’m just looking to the next step which is Hull on Saturday.”
