After gaining the interest of a number of high-profile international clubs, French left-back Ziyad Larkeche chose Fulham in the summer of 2020 and enjoyed a strong opening season in South-West London.
The 18-year-old headed for England with an already impressive CV, despite his tender age. Larkeche became the youngest player in PSG history to play in the UEFA Youth League under the management of two-time Champions League winner Thiago Motta.
On getting used to the new setting, Larkeche admitted:
“It was challenging in a way because it was my first time moving without my family, but I felt it was a good moment to move.“

Adapting to a new country and way of life is difficult enough under normal circumstances but Ziyad was also tasked with adapting, like the rest of the squad, to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“It definitely was unique, not just for me during my move but for everyone. Nobody was used to having to deal with a pandemic and people were made to try new things.
“London is one of the biggest, most beautiful cities in the world but I had to make sure I stayed at home. It was a little weird at first but hopefully things will become a bit more normal now.“
Ziyad was very complimentary of his teammates and staff, who helped him hit the ground running after arriving at Motspur Park.
“All the boys and coaches were really kind to me and I’ve made great relationships with my teammates. I think this is really important and I'm comfortable around the boys.
“My host family have also been very supportive. They helped me to learn the language quickly and helped teach me various things about living in England.“

With 17 appearances to his name under Colin Omogbehin and Mark Pembridge, Ziyad made the most interceptions in the whole squad with 42 and scored one goal to fire the 23s to victory against Middlesbrough.
From games against senior sides in the EFL Trophy to defending against veterans from various clubs, there were lots of great experiences and highlights for the Frenchman.
“It was all a new experience for me, playing different football compared to when I was at PSG. It was really exciting because of the intensity and I like it because it keeps you on your toes. You can’t switch off at any point.
“There were some really good moments for myself throughout the year but if I have to pick one it would be my first appearance at Craven Cottage, when the Under-23s played Norwich. Unfortunately there weren't any fans there but I can't wait to play in front of them for the upcoming season.“
With his excellent tackling and ability to spring forward and help out with attacks, Larkeche became a regular name on the teamsheet. His target, however, is senior football...

“I played most of the games last year, apart from when I had a small injury and was called up for France. Now I think the next step is to really push to become part of the First Team. That’s my ambition and I signed here for that purpose. That’s what I’m working towards.”
Ziyad’s season will kick off on Monday 16th August, as our Under-23s head north to face Sunderland.
