Fulham were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in Sunday’s early kick-off.

Joachim Andersen went closest in a largely uneventful first half, but the Whites were unrelenting in the quest for a goal in the second 45.

Vicente Guaita was forced to make several saves, with one to deny Josh Maja particularly impressive.

Ademola Lookman also saw a late volley agonisingly miss the target, as the Whites were forced to settle for just the one point in South-East London.

Scott Parker made two changes to the side that had beaten Sheffield United eight days earlier, with Kenny Tete and Bobby De Cordova-Reid coming in for Antonee Robinson and Ivan Cavaleiro.

Aside from a Christian Benteke burst that briefly threatened a shot on goal, the opening stages were devoid of goalmouth action, and on that occasion Tosin was on hand to clear any potential danger.

Fulham were seeing plenty of the ball and were constantly looking to break the opposition lines, but were coming up against a typically organised Roy Hodgson side.

We had to wait until the 32nd minute for either side to fashion a chance of note, but Andersen could only glance wide from Lookman’s corner.

The duo combined once again moments later, with the Whites skipper thundering his head against Lookman’s free-kick cross, but he couldn’t get over it and the ball cleared the crossbar.

Joachim Andersen heads over

In an attempt to inject some urgency into proceedings, Parker swapped Ola Aina with Robinson at half-time.

Set-pieces had been the main source of our attacking threat in the first half, and the second half started in the same vein, with Tosin nodding a Lookman free-kick into the arms of Guaita.

Andersen then tried his luck with a 20-yard volley after a corner was only half cleared, but Guaita was equal to his left footer.

Andersen was in the mood for a goal and – after Loftus-Cheek had won a free-kick 30 yards out – smashed a low strike just wide of the post.

It was all Fulham and Loftus-Cheek was next to have a go, but his first-time effort from the edge of the box was too close to Guaita.

Maja had those in attendance on their feet midway through the second half when he showed good footwork to make a yard of space, before bending a left footed shot narrowly wide of the far post.

Josh Maja sends a shot wide

Cavaleiro was then introduced and set up a brilliant chance with one of his first touches, delivering a sumptuous cross that Maja connected well with, only for Guaita to pull off a wonderful reaction save.

From the subsequent corner, Andersen smashed the ball goalwards but was denied by a brave Gary Cahill block.

The pressure was unrelenting, with Loftus-Cheek then demonstrating fine technique with his long range volley, though it sailed wide of the target.

Parker’s intentions were clear in the 73rd minute when he withdrew Frank Anguissa for Aleksandar Mitrović.

With the game creeping towards the 90 minute mark, Lookman found space in the penalty area and was promptly picked out by Harrison Reed’s deep cross, but his placed volley didn’t bend in time to nestle inside the far stick.

Tosin sent a difficult header wide in stoppage time before a ricochet off Maja’s shin briefly threatened, but in the end Fulham were forced to settle for a draw.
