Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s thumping volley helped Jamaica commence their Gold Cup campaign in perfect fashion with a 2-0 victory over Suriname in Orlando.
The Reggae Boyz – who had Michael Hector operating in a holding midfield role – flew out of the traps and led when Shamar Nicholson lashed a low shot into the corner on six minutes.
And 20 minutes later it was two when De Cordova-Reid needed no invitation as a headed clearance fell his way, taking it on first time with a fierce dipping strike from 20 yards which left the goalkeeper with no chance.
Jamaica professionally saw the game out in the second half to claim the three points, with Hector playing 72 minutes and De Cordova-Reid 88.
The latter came second in the Man of the Match voting, but his clean hit was awarded the Goal of the Day accolade.
The lads are next in action against Guadeloupe on Friday.
