While clearly delighted with Fulham’s phenomenal display at Ewood Park, Marco Silva stressed that nobody will be getting carried away.

The Whites absolutely flattened Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night, claiming a remarkable 7-0 victory on the road.

“Fantastic win for us,” Silva admitted. “We know that it’s just three points, though.

“We have to be balanced and humble enough to know that we did fantastically, scoring seven goals in this competition away from home and keeping a clean sheet, the numbers are there and that’s fantastic for us. But they are just three points.

“We have to be happy, we have to definitely congratulate our players. They have fantastic momentum, we want to keep it, but in the meantime we have to keep our feet on the floor, be humble, and start to prepare for the next one.

“You always have to be like that, even though everyone is really happy and our fans are proud of us and that’s everything that we want, but we have to know that this competition is a marathon. But of course we are happy.”

He continued: “We have to keep going. We know that we will not win all the matches, but I don’t want to see backwards steps again like we had [in September], because that winning mentality and consistency is everything that we’re trying to achieve. Tonight we showed that.

“I told our players during half-time that okay we scored two goals and started the game really well, we were efficient really as we had two chances and scored two goals, but I told our players that we have to keep that winning mentality, so I’m really pleased with the way we won the game.”

Aleksandar Mitrović has rightly won plaudits with his scoring exploits this season. He was on the scoresheet again, but the strikes were shared out, with Harry Wilson, Neeskens Kebano and substitute Rodrigo Muniz each nabbing a brace.

“It’s fantastic for me,” Silva said. “Normally my wingers score goals, and my offensive midfielders as well, and they know – Bobby, Kebano, Harry – they know how I demand from them that they take the right decision to score goals and arrive in the right spots as well.

“Even our central defenders know that I am demanding we score more goals from set-pieces with central defenders. It’s very important we start to spread our goals through the other players.”
