Aleksandar Mitrović struck a 90th minute winner to secure Serbia’s place at the 2022 World Cup on Sunday evening.
Serbia travelled to Lisbon knowing that only victory would confirm their place in Qatar, while a point would have been enough for Portugal to top Group A.
Mitrović began the game on the bench, but was introduced at half-time having watched his side fight back to equalise through Dusan Tadic after Renato Sanches’ early opener.
With nothing between the sides, it looked as though Serbia were destined for the Play-Offs, until Mitrović rose highest in the final minute to stick a downwards header in at the near post, sparking jubilant scenes.
It was his 23rd goal of the season for club and country.
Congratulations Mitro!
