Birmingham City v Fulham | Wednesday 15th September 2021 | 7.45pm | St Andrew’s | #BIRFUL

The opposition

  • Lee Bowyer’s men have flown out the traps at the start of the new season, with their sole league defeat of the campaign a smash-and-grab encounter against AFC Bournemouth.
  • While showing their quality going forward – a 5-0 win at Luton Town being a case in point – Blues have also shown their ruthless nature at the back, with their three goals conceded the best in the division.
  • Local lad Troy Deeney will be pushing for a first start for his boyhood club after coming off the bench in their victory over Derby County on Friday. He’s a player Marco Silva knows well from their time together at Watford.

Player insight

Josh Onomah wants to see Fulham impose themselves on their hosts when they make the trip to St Andrew’s.

“They’re quite a physical team, they’ve got physical strikers, so we’ve got to not let it become a physical game,” he explained to FFCtv.

“We want to show our identity and play how we have been in other games this season where we’ve dominated and scored early goals. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”

Pre-match quotes

"We won’t be fearing Fulham, we will respect them because they are a good side, but we will make it as difficult as we can for Fulham to leave with any points."

Lee Bowyer

Birmingham Head Coach

"They are always dangerous, with two strikers, with the boy behind the strikers playing with a free role, he’s really dangerous as well, and on set-pieces they are a strong team as well."
