The Club is delighted to announce that Sonny Hilton is the winner of the 2021/22 Johnny Haynes Trophy following a superb season for our Under-23s.

The trophy is awarded to the Fulham Supporters’ Trust Academy Player of the Year and is voted on by Academy staff and players (U16-23s).

Our 21-year-old attacker scored 11 goals while recording 19 assists in all competitions and was instrumental in our Under-23s' impressive title win.

He is the fourth winner of the annual award, with Tyrese Francois, Jay Stansfield and Fabio Carvalho all previous winners.

Dan Crawford from the Fulham Supporters’ Trust said:

“Sonny was an exceptional leader for Fulham’s successful Under-23s side last season, showcasing his maturity alongside his outstanding technical ability. I know he’s a popular member of the squad and he’s always been a player that the fans have followed closely.

"He has the ability to get fans out of their seats by doing something special. He keeps the opposition on their toes throughout the full 90 minutes and even managed to score twice directly from a corner last season.

"I hope that he will progress towards First Team football as soon as possible."

The man himself, Sonny, added:

"All the lads who won this award previously had amazing seasons, so to be recognised this time around is a really lovely feeling.

"We all worked so hard as a team last season and even in tough situations, we stayed together and showed what we were all about."

Academy Director Mike Cave was equally as pleased with the result:

"It's a fantastic achievement for Sonny and testament to his performance both on and off the pitch this season.

"Sonny has performed well over many seasons, but this year he found a great vein of form. He's worked hard on the training pitch and benefited from the opportunity to play consistently, which has deservedly culminated in both team and now individual success."
