Fulham sealed the Sky Bet Championship title in unbelievable style with a 7-0 victory over Luton Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

There were six different scorers at Craven Cottage, as goals from Tom Cairney and Kenny Tete in the first half were followed up by Fabio Carvalho, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Aleksandar Mitrović (2) and Jean Michaël Seri.

The two for Mitro confirmed his place as the second tier’s most prolific goal scorer of all time.

Marco Silva switched things up in three positions, introducing Tete, Antonee Robinson and Cairney, in place of Neco Williams, Joe Bryan and Seri.

The majority inside Craven Cottage assumed a penalty would be given in the third minute when Kal Naismith wiped out Fabio Carvalho in the box, but referee Tim Robinson decided no infringement was committed.

And it was Hatters captain Naismith who had their first chance of the match moments later, drawing a strong save from Marek Rodák after unleashing a decent hit from the edge of the box.

After a half chance that he headed over in difficult conditions, Aleksandar Mitrović had a first decent sighter of goal midway through the half following a swift counter up the pitch, but the angle of the strike worked in the favour of goalkeeper Matt Ingram who managed to hold the ball at the second attempt.

The opener came on 29 minutes and was pure poetry. Fulham kept the pressure up in and around the box until Wilson could work the ball to Cairney who slammed home a brilliant shot high into the net. A crucial goal scored by a Fulham legend, and also our 100th of the season.

Tom Cairney blasts a rocket into the top corner

There have been some iconic moments at Craven Cottage this season, and Tete added another with his first home goal for the Club. Having outmuscled his marker to bring a high ball out of the sky 25 yards out, he took advantage of no press to take aim and unleash an absolute rocket into the bottom corner, on his supposedly weaker left foot!

It was a party atmosphere in SW6 and things almost got better courtesy of two sublime Mitrović through passes. First, Carvalho was denied by a perfectly timed last ditch tackle, before Wilson had his shot cleared off the line after rounding Ingram.

Tosin then drew a save from the Town stopper with a speculative, but well struck, effort from distance.

Buoyed by the half-time presentation of a Forever Fulham award to Denis Odoi, the second 45 started in a similar fashion, with the Whites playing with swagger and freedom. Within two minutes Cairney was unlucky to see his first-time dipper from 25 yards just clear the target.

Carvalho had arguably been our best performer in a first half full of excellent displays, and you just got a feeling a goal was on the cards. The one to arrive in the 54th minute was absolutely beautiful, though, as Mitrović’s pass was exquisitely flicked on by Wilson, and Carvalho took it at pace before bending a sublime finish inside the far post.

Fabio Carvalho celebrates after he nets another goal

The only thing that was missing was a Mitrović goal, and it duly arrived shortly after the hour mark. Again it was great work from Wilson who skipped a challenge before finding the run of Mitro. He needed two bites at it, but the most important thing was he found the back of the net with his cool slid shot that kissed the base of the post on its way in.

It was turning into one of the great Craven Cottage evenings. De Cordova-Reid had been a menace all day, and got in on the act with a move he started himself. It ended with Carvalho playing him in and, after a magical first touch, De Cordova-Reid lashed home for 5-0 in front of the euphoric Hammy End.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid slots home

All of Fulham’s goals were pure quality, and we almost added another of that ilk when Mitrović spun a reverse pass through to De Cordova-Reid, who was unfortunate to see his outside of the boot strike parried by Ingram.

It truly was six of the best when Seri added his name to the scoresheet. Not long off the bench, the Ivorian killed a ball dead as it dropped out of the sky, and angled a gorgeous strike away from Ingram and inside the far upright. What a way to open his account for the season, and his teammates showed their delight by hoisting him on their shoulders.

Things could have been even better as Fulham were unrelenting in their pursuit of more goals, but Rodrigo Muniz’s header and Seri’s free-kick were off target.

The perfect ending did exist, though. Wilson made it a hat-trick of assists as he played in Mitrovic who lashed home on his left foot for his 43rd league goal of the season, a record in the second tier’s modern era.
