Fulham FC Foundation are proud to announce a new partnership with Movember to extend our work supporting young people’s mental health within South-West London.
Movember, the world’s leading men’s health charity, have been raising awareness and funding projects and research into men’s health since 2003, growing from 30 Mo Bros to over 6 million Mo Bros and Mo Sisters to date. The partnership will enable Fulham FC Foundation to grow our work in mental health and deliver Movember’s renowned Ahead of The Game programme for young people aged 12 to 18.
Ahead of The Game uses sport to teach young people, parents and coaches how to talk about mental health. The programme reviews how to recognise mental health issues, what to do and when to get help. Young people learn how to build resilience and overcome challenges in sport and life.
In July 2021, NHS England reported that 1 in 6 young people aged 5 to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem, that’s five children in every classroom. On average there is a 10 year delay between young people displaying the first symptom and getting help, with 75% of adults with a diagnosable mental health problem experiencing their first symptom before the aged of 24.
Laura Everton, Health and Wellbeing Officer at Fulham FC Foundation, said: “Working with Movember is an incredible opportunity for us which will allow us to reach so many young people who need our support. I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together.”
Paul Williams, Movember’s Program Implementation Director, spoke of the value of the partnership: “We are delighted to partner with Fulham FC Foundation to deliver our ground-breaking Ahead of the Game program.
“Now more than ever young people need the knowledge and tools to look after their mental health and look out and support their friends and teammates. Sport is a great way to engage young people and Fulham joins our network of partners delivering across rugby league, rugby union and football.”
Movember is the leading global charity changing the face of men’s health. They exist to stop men dying too young by tackling some of the most complex health issues facing men today – mental health, suicide, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
