Fulham v Burnley | Saturday 23rd December | 3pm | Craven Cottage | #FULBUR

The opposition

  • It’s been a tough return to the Premier League for Burnley, who have won just two of their 17 matches so far – a run that leaves them sitting second bottom in the standings.
  • Conceding goals has been the main problem for the Clarets, with only 20th placed Sheffield United letting in more than their 36.
  • There have been some promising moments for Vincent Kompany’s side this month, though. After kicking December off with a 5-0 win over Sheff Utd, they also claimed a decent point away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Raúl Jiménez serves the second of a three-game ban, while Tim Ream and Adama Traoré remain sidelined.

Burnley team news

Jack Cork, Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Aaron Ramsey are in contention for returns, though Kompany stated that one of the trio is less likely to make it than the others. Winger Luca Koleosho is out.

Player insight

Andreas Pereira cannot wait to get back to the Cottage, as Fulham look to make it four wins in a row on home soil.

“I’m really looking forward to it because the last two games [at Craven Cottage] have been brilliant, and we want to finish 2023 by winning our home games,” he told FFCtv.

“It’s very important to us. We’re very satisfied with the last two games at home, we want to continue like that. We don’t want to take our foot off the gas, we have to continue playing like that, and we have to aim to win all our games at home.”

Matchday programme

On the back of Marco Silva’s team progressing to the last four of the Football League Cup for the first time in the Club’s history, our Quarter-Final penalty shootout triumph at Goodison Park on Tuesday night is – unsurprisingly – the hot topic of conversation ahead of Burnley’s visit to SW6.

“We were all really happy with the win,” commented Kenny Tete, who features in the main interview in Saturday’s matchday programme. “It wasn’t an easy game. As a team, we fought for every ball and you could see how much we wanted to go to the Semi-Finals. We had a chance to score late on, but it went to penalties. We did really well with the penalties.”

The Dutchman slotted home the first of our sudden-death penalties with a typical air of calm.

“There was a point where we missed a penalty but then Leno stopped one. Then, you know you are the sixth taker!” smiles Kenny. “I felt good. I know that I can take penalties. We trained on it. I’m happy that I scored my penalty and, obviously, happy that Tosin could make the winning penalty and that we are through to the Semi-Finals. Hopefully we can make history with Fulham. I am proud of the team, proud of everyone… all of the supporters.”

Elsewhere in the programme, we hear from Alain Goma, who receives the Forever Fulham award on Saturday. Alex Iwobi is the latest First Teamer to choose his fantasy five-a-side team based on players he has come up against during his career and Club legend Gordon Davies writes his final column of 2023.

Priced at £4, you can pick up a copy of the programme on the day or online.
