Our Under-21s' impressive winning run came to an end on Saturday, when they were defeated 1-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion.
Just as it looked like we were going to pick up a strong point on the road, Jack Hinshelwood scored from the spot to condemn our lads to a loss.
Following our impressive win over Sparta Prague in the week, Alex Borto replaced George Wickens in goal as attention shifted back to PL2 duties.
Further up the pitch, Callum McFarlane and Olly Sanderson both made starts with Matt Dibley-Dias and Terry Ablade dropping to the bench.
The Young Seagulls started well, forcing Charlie Robinson into some early defending. Our young centre-back stuck out a leg to block Andrew Moran’s attempted cross from the left.
We then broke away ourselves up the other end. After winning the ball in midfield, Martial Godo found the overlapping Luke Harris whose ball across goal was cleared.

Brighton’s Samy Chouchane came close as we passed the 10-minute mark. After an initial cross was cleared, the ball fell to the midfielder whose venomous strike whizzed just wide of the far post.
The biggest chance the game had seen went the way of Steve Wigley’s side. Harris cleverly slotted Godo through, but the in-form winger skewed his effort which bounced wide.
It was a closely fought game for much of the first half, with both sides threatening going forward. Brighton’s Luca Barrington received the ball with time and space but opted for a first-time effort, which was comfortably dealt with by Borto.
We had our American stopper to thank just before the break. Mark O'Mahoney tried to take the ball around Borto, but he did excellently to push out a strong hand and push the ball away from danger.
The referee blew for half-time with the game finely balanced.

Borto was called straight back into action after the break, diving to his right to keep out Ben Jackson’s audacious volley from range.
We were under some early pressure. Brighton’s Moran had an attempt trickle wide, but he should’ve done better given that he had time and space at his disposal.
Substitute Terry Ablade had his first involvement on 57 minutes. Devan Tanton swung in a decent ball which fell to the Finnish forward, but his strike while leaning back ballooned over.
We should’ve gone ahead just past the hour mark, when Harris capitalised on an error at the back and found himself clean through. Uncharacteristically, his effort was fired high and wide.

We had an opportunity to break forward with just under 10 to play. Sub Delano McCoy-Splatt charged through midfield before finding Hilton, whose delivery from the right had way too much on it and drifted over and out for a throw-in.
We fought and fought, but it was late heartbreak for Wigley’s lads. After Araujo fouled his man in the Fulham area, the hosts were awarded a penalty. Borto did brilliantly to save the initial spot kick, but the ball fortunately fell to the taker Hinshelwood who did the rest.
That late goal was all that separated the two sides.
