40 of Fulham’s finest cyclists made not only an outstanding effort in their 101 mile challenge, but they also raised an exceptional fundraising figure of £26,700!
Their momentous challenge saw them take on some of the toughest climbs across the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the South Downs National Park. This challenge was not for the faint hearted and saw our Riders tackle around 1600m in elevation gained on the first day. Even though it was a mammoth first day, with the group completing around 150km on the first day – our riders all finished the large first leg of the journey in high spirits, although there were some sore legs among the group.
Our 40 Away Day Cyclists were split into four groups and coupled with a specialised ride safety leader who guided them for the entirety of their journey. The whole group set off at 9am on 12th May in the glorious sunshine that surrounded Craven Cottage. Even with a few running repairs taking place along the way, luckily there was no serious mechanical issues and all riders were able to make the overnight stop in good time!
After a much needed feed that evening, the whole group gathered together to award the top fundraisers with some special Fulham memorabilia for their brilliant fundraising efforts.
Even after the long day in the saddle, spirits remained high among the Away Day Cyclists – with their excitement peaking once morning broke and it was time to undertake the relaxing 20km last leg of the journey into Southampton!
Arriving at St Mary’s Stadium around 12pm on matchday, the group gathered together to savour the end of their huge challenge as a team. Please take a look at the photo gallery below to see the weekend’s action.

Hugh French, Fulham FC Foundation Event Lead, said: “It was great to have such a big turnout of riders actively wanting to take part in this season's Away Day Cycle. The whole group was so supportive of one another, it made the whole challenge an unbelievable experience for everyone involved!”
Drew Heatley, Away Day Cyclist, added: “The Away Day Cycle was an incredible experience - and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. You start the day meeting so many like-minded people, and you achieve something so incredible together that you become firm friends. You also get so much closer to the Fulham FC Foundation and the work it does, which opens your eyes to how important it is. I’d recommend the ADC to any Fulham fan - whether you’re a cycling expert or a novice!”
Once changed into their Fulham FC tops, the Away Day Cyclists filtered into the away end with all the other travelling Whites to watch a record breaking 15th win of the season.
The Away Day Cycle capped off a great end to the season for Fulham FC Foundation and the charity would like to thank all the Riders that took part in this challenge for making it so special.
