During March, the female cohorts of Premier League Inspires at Raynes Park High School and Dunraven Secondary School organised an International Women’s Day event for the female students at their schools.

International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. As the 2024 campaign focused on inspiring inclusion, the PL Inspires cohorts designed an event that would not only bring the year groups together but also provide some positive role models for them.

International Women's Day

The events were broken down into two parts. The first part was an activity open to all the female students at their school, lead by the PL Inspires cohorts. These cohorts provided a range of different arts and crafts materials and encouraged the female students to create inspiring messages that would be brought together to form a collage.

The second part of the events consisted of a Q&A with women from traditionally male dominated roles. The PL Inspires students thought this would be a brilliant opportunity to provide the girls in their Year Group with some positive role models that demonstrated they could follow any career they wanted.

"It was a pleasure attending the IWD event and seeing the students interact with the guest speakers with such interest in our areas of work. Hopefully I’ve inspired even just one student with my career!" - Katie Foster, Firefighter stationed at Willesden

International Women's Day

“It was a pleasure to see young girls celebrating International Women’s Day. I enjoyed seeing so many girls interacting, and sharing ideas as well as taking part in the event and being able to inspire the girls through my experiences. It was so lovely that so many girls wanted to speak to me after the event too and ask me questions about my career and where I am now.” - Gracie Mae, Entertainment Journalist & Publicist.

Overall the events were a huge success, with over 300 female students taking part, with the schools recognising the impact that planning such an event has had on the PL Inspires students.

“There has been a massive improvement for the PL Change-makers participants around confidence, public speaking and teamwork. It has been a pleasure to see how organised they were for the event, from the planning to delivering of the event and inspiring inclusion for the other girls in the school community. A massive thank you to the Fulham staff supporting on the programme”. - Mr Buckley, Head of Physical Education at Dunraven Secondary School.
