The opposition
It’s been a busy week for Manchester United, who have bolstered their defensive options with the double signing of centre-back Matthijs de Light and full-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, both of whom played under head coach Erik Ten Hag at Ajax. Club captain Bruno Fernandes also agreed a contract extension.
After beating Manchester City in the FA Cup Final at the end of last season, United thought they’d got the better of their rivals again in the Community Shield at the weekend when Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring in the 82nd minute, but Bernardo Silva levelled on 89, before a penalty shoot-out win for the blue side of Manchester.

Team news
🔴 United’s new £52m centre-back Leny Yoro picked up a foot injury in pre-season and will be out for several months following surgery. He’s joined in the treatment room by Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Rasmus Højlund.
🤍 At the time of his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Marco Silva had no injury news to report.
