The opposition

Last season was a disastrous one for Birmingham as they were relegated to the third tier for the first time in 30 years, but 2024/25 has begun promisingly. After claiming a late draw in their opener at home to Reading, they’ve taken maximum points from two away trips since, beating Wycombe Wanderers and Leyton Orient by one goal margins.

They booked their place in Round Two of the Carabao Cup with another slender away win, defeating Charlton Athletic 1-0 despite playing the final 12 minutes with 10 men after a red card for Dion Sanderson.
