Andreas Pereira was almost the hero for Brazil in their meeting with Colombia in California on Tuesday evening.

With the match poised at 1-1, Andreas was teed up 25 yards from goal in the final minute of stoppage time. He sent in an instant dipping shot which looked set to nestle, only for goalkeeper Camilo Vargas to pull off an excellent save in pushing it over the bar.

Andreas had been introduced for Lucas Paqueta at half-time, after Crystal Palace full-back Daniel Munoz had cancelled out Raphinha’s free-kick opener.

Brazil needed to win to top the group, and now face a tough Quarter-Final clash with Uruguay in Las Vegas on Saturday.
