On Tuesday 25th June, Fulham FC Foundation hosted a Girls football festival for local primary schools in the Hammersmith and Fulham area. This event not only served as an end of school year celebration, it also aimed to provide opportunities for young girls to continue their engagement with the game of football!

The objectives of this girls football festival were to encourage girls in year 3 and 4 to:

  • Build their knowledge, skills and confidence to play;
  • Promote local playing opportunities;
  • Develop confidence and self-esteem.

Nine local schools were invited to take part in the event which consisted of a fun filled morning that saw schools rotate around a carousel of different skills-based activities, including ball mastery, dribbling, shooting and goalkeeping.

Fulham FC Foundation also had a station focusing on youth voice, run with the objective of gaining a greater understanding on the barriers and challenges girls may face in the borough in terms of participating in sport.

“It was great to be part of the Hammersmith and Fulham Girls Primary School festival at South Park. It was fantastic to see so many girls from the local community taking part in a carousel of activities where they could learn new skills focusing on different elements of the game. Whether the girls were new to the sport or had previous playing experience, it didn’t matter as there was something for everybody!” - Sam Hadley, Female Football Development Manager, Fulham FC Foundation.

Fulham Cross Girls School also supported the festival by providing student Sports Leaders who proved themselves as excellent role models throughout. They shadowed Fulham FC Foundation coaches, helping our coaching staff by supporting the players at each station.
