Luke Harris scored in Birmingham City’s emphatic 6-2 win over Barnsley on Saturday.

Harris bagged Blues’ fourth of the afternoon, racing onto an Alfie May through ball before slotting calmly past Kieren Flavell.

The victory – Blues’ 28th league triumph of the season – put Chris Davies’ side on the cusp of promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

A win at Peterborough United on Tuesday night would be enough to see Birmingham clinch automatic promotion, while they also have a trip to Wembley on the horizon, facing Peterborough again in the Vertu Motors Trophy Final on Sunday afternoon.

Elsewhere, Connor McAvoy played his part as Wealdstone claimed two huge victories last week to ease their relegation fears. McAvoy was part of the Stones defence that kept a clean sheet in an impressive 1-0 win over in-form Boston.

Neil Gibson’s side are now five points clear of the drop following Saturday’s 2-1 comeback win over promotion hopefuls Forest Green Rovers.

The Stones have only lost four of the 13 games that McAvoy has featured in, although he was forced off with an injury shortly before half-time against Forest Green.

Overseas, recently-capped Albania international Adrion Pajaziti played 68 minutes in HNK Gorica’s goalless draw with NK Varazdin.

There were minutes off the bench for Olly Sanderson, Terry Ablade and Aaron Loupalo-Bi, although Harrogate, Partick Thistle and Dagenham & Redbridge all suffered defeats in their respective weekend fixtures.
