For the third year running, Fulham FC Foundation supported the Junior Citizenship Scheme (JCS), a long-standing partnership event with Transport for London (TfL) to help primary school pupils in the Hammersmith and Fulham borough to prepare for the transition to secondary school.

The first week of the programme was hosted within the Johnny Haynes Stand at Craven Cottage with the second week taking place within the brand-new Fulham Pier, situated in the Riverside Stand, offering an inspiring and modern environment for the learning experience.

“Working in partnership with TfL once again has been a real pleasure, and we are proud to have delivered such a meaningful and impactful event for our local community," said Kayleigh Bowers, Primary Education Manager.

"Over the past three years, this collaborative initiative has enabled us to reach and positively influence thousands of children as they prepare for the important transition from primary to secondary school. Together, we’ve helped equip them with the knowledge and confidence to become safer, more responsible, and engaged citizens.

"This year, we were especially pleased to host the Junior Citizenship Scheme at Fulham Pier, offering hundreds of children the chance to explore the new space while engaging in vital learning experiences. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all the partner organisations and services involved, their continued commitment and support play a crucial role in ensuring the scheme’s key messages truly resonate with the young people we engage.”

Held over two weeks during the summer term, the event welcomed Year 6 pupils from schools across Hammersmith & Fulham to take part in a carousel of hands-on workshops. Each session was designed to help students develop confidence and key life skills for their move into secondary school and beyond.

We asked some of the teachers what they thought about the programme and how it benefitted the young people in attendance:

“Absolutely excellent! We bring our Year 6s every year and find this experience so valuable for the children. It is always a lot more powerful to have the children receive these messages directly from professionals rather than ourselves as class teachers!”  - Teacher from St Peter’s CE Primary.

“This was such an engaging and enjoyable afternoon, packed with hugely valuable information and advice. Thank you for inspiring the children and making them more confident and responsible citizens. It was so lovely for them to see behind the scenes which added more excitement to the afternoon. You might have some new fans!” - Teacher from Ravenscourt Park Prep School.

Workshops were delivered by a range of key partners including TfL, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, the Metropolitan Police, and Fulham FC Foundation, covering topics such as personal safety, emergency awareness, and mental wellbeing.

The Junior Citizenship Scheme continues to play a vital role in equipping young people with the tools they need to navigate new environments and make positive contributions to their communities.
